Ah, the MSI MPG X870E—a motherboard so ambitious, it might just file your taxes if you ask nicely (and update the BIOS). This isn’t just a printed circuit board; it’s a full-blown launchpad for whatever silicon-fuelled monstrosity you plan to build. Let’s dive into this majestic slab of engineering and see why it’s basically a Swiss Army knife—if the knife had RGB and a doctorate in electrical engineering.
First off, at its core, the X870E rocks AMD’s latest X870E chipset, designed specifically for the Ryzen 9000 series processors. That means support for the AM5 socket, naturally, and DDR5 RAM with speeds soaring over 7800 MHz (when overclocked). It’s essentially a valedictorian on creatine.
And it doesn't just support high-performance parts—it feeds them. You’ve got an 18+2+1 phase Duet Rail VRM setup, which is less of a power delivery system and more of a small electrical substation. Add in extended heatsinks and MSI’s signature thermal armor, and you’ve got cooling that whispers sweet nothings to your components. The twin 8-pin CPU power connectors aren’t just there for show either—they’re here for serious, full-send overclocking sessions.
Now, if you’re the kind of person who gets aroused by PCIe lanes (and honestly, who among us doesn’t?), you’re in luck. This board offers two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots—perfect for graphics cards that cost more than your car—and a spare PCIe 4.0 x1 slot for whatever niche add-in card your tech-goblin heart desires.
Storage? Oh, you want storage? The X870E has four M.2 slots—two of them blazing with PCIe 5.0, and the other two at a still very respectable PCIe 4.0. Slap on the included M.2 Shield Frozr heatsinks, and your NVMe drives stay cooler than the guy who brings his own mechanical keyboard to a LAN party. You also get six SATA III ports, in case you’re still hanging onto a fleet of hard drives from the Bronze Age.
Rear I/O is just straight-up indulgent. You’ve got one USB 4.0 Type-C port pushing 40Gbps—perfect for docking stations, external SSDs, or flexing. Alongside that, there are nine USB 3.2 ports of various flavors, from Type-A to Type-C, plus two good ol’ USB 2.0 ports for your legacy peripherals or cursed RGB mouse mats. Video output? HDMI 2.1, of course. And network-wise, it gives you 2.5G LAN and built-in Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth 5.4—because MSI apparently wants your internet faster than your thoughts.
Audio isn’t neglected either. This board’s packing the Realtek ALC4082 codec paired with an ESS SABRE DAC—an audio setup that gently caresses your ears with high-res sound. It also comes with BIOS Flashback and Clear CMOS buttons, which are a godsend when you’ve overclocked something into a silicon-based panic attack and need to undo your sins.
Aesthetically, it’s a bit of a stunner. Mystic Light RGB zones pulse with customizable color, the heatsinks are clad in angular cyberpunk armor, and the whole board looks like it was pulled straight from a dystopian hacker's dream. MSI’s added smart features too, like a physical Smart Button you can assign to just about anything—boot to BIOS, toggle RGB, or initiate the summoning of eldritch computing gods, your call. There’s even a tool-free EZ M.2 clip system, so you’re not hunting for microscopic screws like a tech archaeologist. And those PCIe slots? Reinforced with steel armor to keep your thousand-pound GPU from sagging like an old mattress.
So, final thoughts? The MSI MPG X870E doesn’t whisper “high-end”—it screams it through a bullhorn wrapped in carbon fiber. It’s a motherboard with vision, power, elegance, and more future-proofing than a nuclear bunker in the Alps. Throw in a strong PSU and a healthy purpose, and this board’s the main character in your next PC build saga.
Verdict?
9.5 out of 10.
Would recommend. Would also marry, given the right legal framework.

For my new workstation, I decided on the MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi. Future-proofing was a major consideration, so the PCIe 5.0 support for both the GPU and NVMe drives was essential. I'm really impressed with the connectivity options, especially the Wi-Fi 7 and the USB 4 ports, which will be perfect for my external drives and security tools. The BIOS is a significant improvement; it's much more intuitive, making it easier to tweak settings for performance and security. The 'EZ' M.2 installation was a welcome feature, saving me some time and hassle. The VRM design looks robust, which is crucial for maintaining stability, especially when running demanding security tools and virtual machines. I also appreciate the sleek aesthetic; the subtle RGB lighting adds a nice touch without being distracting. Yes, it was a premium purchase, but I wanted a top-tier motherboard for this build, and I'm hoping it will prove to be a worthwhile investment. Performance-wise, it's meeting all my expectations, with solid benchmarks and a snappy feel. For my dual-boot setup, it's been rock-solid so far, with no compatibility issues. Ultimately, I went for the high-end features, and I'm very satisfied with the purchase. If you need the feature set, this is a great motherboard

The MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI AM5 motherboard was my first pick when building my new PC rig. One of the things I really wanted was the EZ Debug LED because it makes troubleshooting simple. It just lights up and tells you where the issue is. Also has a ton of USB ports, which is super handy for all my peripherals. Plus, the RGB lighting looks awesome with the rest of my setup. Overall, solid performance and some nice extra features that make it worth the premium pricetag.

I purchased this motherboard as part of a new PC build with the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
The design is gorgeous, the BIOS/UEFI is very nice to navigate, there's a great amount of ports, and the component installation + uninstallation is so hassle-free compared to the other motherboards I've owned. The MSI Center software is decent, as well.
This is the first time I've had an MSI motherboard, and it's actually better than what I expected it to be. It's very feature-packed.
The only con I have is that it's expensive and pricey. But other than that, it's a solid motherboard that I would recommend to PC builders with some extra cash to spare and want a future-proof build.
