How will I be paid for my old tech trade-in?
With Box, you’ll receive cash paid directly into your bank account once your trade-in has been approved. We do not currently offer store credit.
How much can I earn when I trade in my old tech with Box?
The amount you receive depends on the product you trade in and its condition based on our final assessment. We also sometimes run Enhanced Trade-In Offers, which can earn you up to £100 extra on selected products, helping make your next upgrade easier on your wallet — and better for the planet.

How do I know my data is safe?
Your privacy is our priority. Every device we receive is wiped to government standards, permanently removing your personal data before it’s reused or recycled.
We follow strict R2-certified data destruction protocols, so your information is fully protected from start to finish.
What Happens to Your Device
What happens to my device after I trade it in?
Depending on its condition, your device will either be:
- Tested and repaired for reuse or resale, giving it a new lease of life; or
- Responsibly recycled, ensuring valuable materials are recovered and harmful components are disposed of safely.

What if my device is broken or doesn’t turn on?
No problem. Even faulty or damaged devices can hold value. We’ll assess them fairly and recycle or reuse components responsibly, ensuring nothing goes to landfill.
How it works
Trading in with Box is simple from start to finish:

Get a quote
- Get an instant online quote for your device.
- Your quote includes a reference number, so you can track when it was issued.

Package your device
- Package your device securely to avoid damage in transit.
- If you place an order alongside your trade-in worth over £100, or if your device’s trade-in value exceeds £100, we’ll send you a free mailing kit that includes packaging and a shipping label.
- Mailing kits usually arrive within 3–5 working days.
- Please Note: If your kit hasn’t arrived after 6 working days, it may have been lost in transit. We’re unable to resend kits, but you can still send your device using your own packaging.

Send your device
- Send your device within 21 days of receiving your quote.
- Shipping instructions are included in your confirmation email.
- Please note: postage is only covered if a free mailing kit was provided.

Device inspection
- Once received, our technicians will test and verify your device within 3–5 working days.
- If your device doesn’t match the details in your original trade-in form but is still eligible for trade-in, we’ll contact you with a revised quote.
- If the device isn’t eligible for cash trade-in, we’ll either return it to you or recycle it, based on the option you selected on your trade-in form.

- After inspection, our accounts team processes payment within 3–4 working days.
- Funds usually reach your bank account 1–2 working days later. No hidden fees, no faff — just fast, fair payment.
Preparing & Shipping Your Device
How do I prepare and ship my device?
Treat your parcel like it’s your favourite gadget — because it probably was.
Choose a sturdy box or padded envelope, and make sure your device can’t move around inside. You can use recycled materials like old paper, newspapers, or cardboard to keep it eco-friendly.
For laptops (like MacBooks):
- Use a double- or triple-walled box that comfortably fits your device.
- Wrap your tech in bubble wrap, airbags, or foam pellets so it’s snug and secure.
- Seal all seams with pressure-sensitive packing tape — avoid masking tape, cellophane, string, or rope.
- If you’ve still got the original packaging, that’s a great option — just add padding for safety.
Shipping Tips
- Your trade-in offer is valid for 21 days — send your item before it expires.

- Always get proof of postage or ensure your parcel is scanned by a courier employee.

Before You Ship
- Delete all personal data and perform a factory reset if you can.
- Sign out of all personal accounts (like iCloud or Google).
- For MacBooks, remember to turn off the firmware password if one is set.
Returns Information
- When a return is processed for an order that included a trade-in, the refund will be based on the remaining balance after the trade-in credit has already been applied.
- This means the refund amount may be less than the original purchase price, as the trade-in value has already been issued.
